Northern Ireland Assembly

The Northern Ireland Assembly was dissolved on March 24th 2011 in anticipation of the election scheduled for May 5.

Until then, there were 108 MLAs working away at Stormont. Six of them representing South Down constituency. Westminster

SDLP leader since February 2010 (elected at the SDLP conference held in the Slieve Donard Hotel), Margaret Ritchie succeeded long-standing MP Eddie McGrady as Westminster representative for South Down in the May 2010 general election. She was a councillor in Down District Council for many years (since 1985) before becoming an MLA in 2003 and served from 2007-10 as Social Development Minister in the NI Executive.
